PUNE, JUNE 4: Pune swimmers drew a blank in terms of records as their counterparts Mumbai continued their relentless march of rewriting meet marks in the 26th Junior and 16th Sub-Junior State swimming championship, at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi pools today.

Seven new meet records NMR8217;s, making it a dozen in two days is enough evidence that these budding aspirants mean business. After all at stake is a place on respective state squads8217; for the Nationals, to be held later this year. The Junior Nationals are to be held at Jodhpur from June 21 and the Sub-Junior event at Ludhiana in the first week of July.

However, putting on the star act were Zeba Wadia of IIT and Parikshit Shetty who won all their events in the girls under-18 and boys under-13 sections. In fact had Zeba8217;s 200m backstroke result not been on hold 8212; with regard to an NMR, she along with Parikshit would of made it a record in each event participated,8217; on Friday.

For Zeba, determination8217; remained her forte. It helped first rewrite the 100m freestyle record with 1:05.84 to better Aurangabad8217;s Nandita Shriniwasan 1:07.43s last year.

Later, with a 5:33.92s effort in the 400m Individual Medley she lowered Greater Mumbai8217;s Sonia Suri effort, set last year, by a huge 21 second margin to take her NMR tally to four.

Parikshit set records in two varied events 8212; two NMR8217;s 8212; the first in the 100m freestyle and then the 100m backstroke to erase Avinash Kriplani8217;s name from the books.

In the two-lap freestyle the record-margin remained 0.09s, while going backwards his effort was 0.29s better than the marks set in 1998.

Among the other NMR8217;s, 15-year-old Tejaswi Shetty, of CES Barfiwalla H.S Andheri lowered Sindoor Thakkar8217;s 1998 mark in the girls under-15 100m freestyle. Touching in at 1:04.34s, Tejaswi remained .33s better than Sindoor.

In the boys under-18 section, Sandeep Verma brought off the best effort today knocking 31s off Aditya Shroff8217;s 400m IM mark set in 1994.

Later, Bhavna Sharma of Swami Vivekananda H.C., Chembur erased the 200m backstroke record in the under-15 event. At 2:45.72s she put aside Nanita Khurana8217;s 8217;96 mark of 2:47.83s by two seconds.

After two days Greater Mumbai have bagged 24 off 44 events held, while the host8217;s have just managed four.
