MUMBAI, July 25: Advocate Vivekanand Ajgaonkar was elected president of the David Sassoon library and reading room for the second consecutive term at the library8217;s 149th annual general meeting held in Mumbai recently.

In a press statement, Ajgaonkar said that connecting the library 8212; which is celebrating its 150th year 8212; on the Internet, microfilming old books, adding new books and holding a lecture series were the tasks before him and the new managing committee.

Seminar

The Mumbai university8217;s department of civics and politics is organising a day-long seminar on Urban challenges and urban governance with reference to Mumbai8217; on Wednesday, July 30, between 10 am and 4.30 pm.

The seminar8217;s first session will deal with urban challenges, while the second session will deal with urban governance. Principal Secretary, Urban Development, Nalinakshan will deliver the valedictory address.

Medical college

New courses

The MH Saboo Siddik Polytechnic has announced 15 courses for women as part of its continuing education programme for women of lower socio-economic classes. These include fabric painting, mehndi, ceramic painting, Deeniyat, home sciences, languages, journalism, screen printing and cooking.

Deora8217;s visit

Mumbai Congress chief Murli Deora visited residents of the Ramabai Chawl in Ghatkopar on Friday morning and met families of victims in the recent police firing. He offered free computer training to the younger members in the families if they had the required educational background.

He said the minimum qualification of HSC would be waived and even those who had passed their SSC would be eligible for the training. Earlier, Deora gave Rs 10,000 each to members of the affected families.
