14 nominations for Sarkarnama

  • Sarkarnama, the latest Marathi box-office hit, is all set to sweep the 35th Marathi Film Festival after winning 14 nominations.
  • Minister of State for Cultural Affairs Anil Deshmukh announced nominations for different categories. Various awards worth Rs 4.03 lakh will be distributed at the festival scheduled for April 30, where Amitabh Bachchan will be the chief guest.

    An unreleased film Paij Lagnachi is in close contest with Sarkarnama having won as many as 13 nominations. Other major contenders are Soon Laadki Sasarchi, Kamaal Mazya Baykochi and Navasache Por. Apart from Sarkarnama and Paij Lagnachi, five other films have bagged nomination for the best film. For best actor and actress, best documentary, best story, best script, best dialogues, best male and female playback singer, best actor and actress in a supporting role, best lyrics, best music director, best choreographer, best comedy actor andactress, there are three nominations each.

    The first three best films will get an award of Rs 70,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 25,000, while first three best directors will be get Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 9,000. Apart from these awards, the V Shantaram award for best film on a social problem will be given a cash award of Rs 40,000.

    Kalyan exchange to issue new nos

  • Kalyan Telecom is phasing out the Penta Conta Crossbar exchanges of Bhiwandi and Dombivli. All telephone numbers of subscribers in these exchanges will be changed to electronic exchange numbers free of cost on or before May 31, 1998.

  • Route display on BEST buses

  • Bombay Electric Supply and Transport buses will soon have liquid electronic display for route and destination display on the buses. For this and other projects, the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority has sanctioned Rs 125 crore.

  • The International Academy of Magic has organised illusionist Satish Deshmukh’sCrush Magic Workshop at Bandra Hindu Association from April 20 to 24 and April 25 to 29 between 10 am and 2 pm.
