
Pilot8217;s body still missing
The body of Ravi Kapoor, co-pilot of the ill-fated Pawan Hans helicopter which crashed off the Bombay High on Sunday night, is yet to be recovered despite searches conducted by the Indian Navy and the ONGC. The Dauphin helicopter was on a rescue mission to oil rig Sagar Jyoti8217; to airlift an injured ONGC employee to Mumbai mainland when it crashed into the sea.
The search is also on for the helicopter8217;s black box where the last conversation between the two pilots would be recorded, thereby providing vital clues about the doomed copter8217;s final moments. Some wreckage has been already recovered.
MUTP-II funds
Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde on Tuesday reiterated that the World Bank refused to extend financial assistance for the Rs 3,300-crore Mumbai Urban Transport Project MUTP-II owing to the indifferent attitude of the Ministry of Railways. Munde expressed surprise over the statement of Railway Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, who faulted the alliance government over the controversy.
He said when he along with Chief Minister Manohar Joshi called on Prime Minister I K Gujral and Paswan, they were explained the exact status of the project. 8220;Both Gujral and Paswan were then convinced there was some mistake on the part of the railway administration,8221; Munde said.
Ghandat8217;s bail
Sitaram Ghandat, MLA chairman of Abhyudaya Co-op Bank and seven other directors on Tuesday filed fresh anticipatory bail petitions in the Bombay high court which stayed their arrest in the Rs 5 crore bank scam until May 30. On Saturday last, the city civil and sessions court had rejected the anticipatory bail pleas of Ghandat and other accused.
