
Music composers honoured
Marathi music composers Shrinivas Khale and Anand Rishi were felicitated on the occasion of Guru Purnima at a function on July 28, by the Shriguru Pratishtan celebrating 25 years. The function was held at Kalidas Natyagraha, Mulund, where the composers were honoured with Samaj Gaurav Puraskar by Shrimad Dattapadma Swami. Also honoured were Sawantwadi Mayor Deepak Kesarkar, editor of Ratnagiri Times, Yashwant Padhye and the chief of Velingkar Institute of Management Dr Sharadchandra Kopardekar who were given the Samaj Bhushan.
Diploma course in translation

Course on film appreciation
Jindal Arts Creative Interaction Centre JACIC, NCPA will hold a film appreciation course for media professionals and film enthusiasts in collaboration with Film and Television Institute of India FTII at Little Theatre, NCPA from August 11 to 14, between 9.30 am and 8 pm. The course fee is Rs 800 per person and spot registration fee is Rs 1,000 per person.
Professor Suresh Chabbria will discuss salient ways of looking at cinema, image and meaning; the structure and sequencing of representative text films;historical subjects; non-fiction, animation, experimental and short films; and cinema8217;s position in contemporary social consciousness. Each day8217;s programme will conclude with the screening of a film, followed by discussion.

Asiatic Library workers8217; union
Workers of the Asiatic Library, Fort, recently set up a union, The Asiatic Society of Bombay Employees Association. The union, led by Dr B R Rairikar, has been formed to demand an early implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations for the library8217;s workers and improve the working conditions at the library, a press release said.
Under the guidance of yoga expert Sadashiv Nimbalkar, Yoga Vidya Niketan is going to conduct Diploma in Yogic Education: Yoga Teachers Training Course8217; at Yoga Bhavan, the structure of the Institute situated at Sector-9 A, Vashi.

In a recent function at Mumbai, the Union minister for human resource and development, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi said that pseudo securlarism has caused more damage to the nation that socialism and that such distorted secularism should be banned.
He was speaking at a program organised by the All India Business Council to release a book called Indian secularism- a travesty of truth and justice8217; by VHP leader and freedom fighter, Anandshankar Pandya. Joshi further said that no injustice has been done to the minorities in this country because of its ancient culture and dharma.
Others present on the occassion were sheriff of Mumbai, Chandrakant Bakshi and law minister, Ram Jethmalani.
