Kalantri appointed MPCC treasurer

Vijay G Kalantri has been appointed as the treasurer of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee. An industrialist, Kalantri is the president of All India Association of Industries AIAI and Indian Council of Foreign Trade, chairman of India-UNIDO Industries Council, vice-chairman of Indo Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry and vice president of South Asian Association for Small and Medium Enterprises, Pakistan. He is also on the board of directors of various companies and member of various advisory committees of state and central governments.

Nuclear recycle facility inaugurated

The Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre BARC Anil Kakodkar, inaugurated the Solid Storage Surveillance Facility at Tarapur on July 26, marking a milestone in high-level radioactive waste management.

Speaking on the occassion, Kakodkar observed that the technology route was difficult but there was no soft option. K Balu, director of nuclear recycle group who led the teamworking on the project pointed out that misconceptions regarding environmental issues have been laid to rest by these engineered facilities.

Pirated cassettes seized

Sustained investigations led to the raid of a recording and assembly unit owned by Munna, at Jacob Circle. ICCP 263 pirated cassettes and 12,000 blank cassettes were seized.

Earlier, in June, a shop in Kalbadevi and a unit owned by Yusuf Masalewala were raided and 700 cassettes, 332 CD8217;s and recording equipment were seized.

Fund collection drive

Department store, Akbarallys has started a fund collection drive at all their four stores. They have requested the Army HQ Mamp;G Area to allocate the fund towards educational expenses of the children of the jaawans and officers from Maharashtra and Gujarat, who lost their lives in Kargil.

Akbarallys will match the collection with their own contribution. Collection boxes have been installed at their stores at Fountain, Santacruz, Chembur and Fort.

Tribute to DavidOgilvy

The Advertising Club of Bombay has called the advertising and marketing community to pay tribute to advertising guru David Ogilvy, at Sophia Bhabha Hall, Sophia College, at 6 pm, on July 30.

Ogilvy died at 88 after having had a profound influence on the advertising industry for almost 50 years. Alok Nanda and Alyque Padamsee have been asked to speak on the legend. Admission is free. For details, call on 3894091 or 3892087.
