
Meeting on Srikrishna report
The Citizens8217; Committee for Action on Srikrishna Commission Report will hold a public meeting on September 9 at K C College Hall, Churchgate, at 6 pm to discuss the Srikrishna report and ways to ensure its implementation. Stage personalities Shreeram Lagoo, Vijay Tendulkar and activist Pushpa Bhave will speak on the occasion, among others. The committee is also planning to launch a signature campaign and hold a series of public meets demanding the implementation of the report.
Mangalore train gets a name
The Kurla-Mangalore Express has been named Matsya Gandha8217;, Minister of State for Railways Ram Naik announced on Sunday. The name was chosen from about 3,000 names given in by the public after the railways appealed for suggestions.
AIDS workshops for students
The NSS unit of the Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College, Ghatkopar, is organising a series of lectures and workshops on AIDS awareness for college students. A workshop on AIDS awareness will beconducted by Dr Uma Pocha on September 7. Dr Vineeta Chitale of TISS will speak on psycho-counselling aspects of HIV/AIDS on September 9 and Dr C V Patankar will deliver a lecture on scientific facts of HIV/AIDS8217; on September 12, the concluding day.
Programme for senior citizens
The Nirmala Niketan Institute8217;s College of Social Work is organising a week-long residential workshop for senior citizens between September 7 and 13. An awareness programme will be held on health care and alternative medicine, legal aid and investment patterns. Visits will be organised to ward offices, police stations and various organisations. Art by street children
The Concern India Foundation will hold an exhibition and sale of paintings by street children on September 8 and 9 at Cymroza Art Gallery, first floor, 72 Bhulabahi Desai Road, Mumbai-26. Over a hundred paintings bychildren in the age group of six to 14 will be put up for sale.
Printing industry exhibition
An exhibition on printing and processing industry is being held at the Nehru Centre at Worli. Organised by the Bombay Master Printer8217;s Association, the exhibition will present an overview of the latest technologies and the market trends in the industry.
Membership drive
Suraksha, a social organisation, has started a membership drive among poor women. The members will be given legal and medical aid as well as short term relief by the organisation.
Free Marathi classes
