Phalke award for Pradeep
MUMBAI, July 3: Noted Hindi poet Kavi Pradeep alias Ramchandra Narayanji Dwivedi has been named winner of Dada Saheb Phalke award for 1997.8220;I am very happy. Let me recover from the shock first8221;, said 83-year-old Pradeep. His daughter Mitul Pradeep, said that her father is down with cough and cold and told his family members that he did not not expect that he would be honoured with the highest award. Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar8217;s joy knew no bounds when informed of the news. She said, 8220;I am proud of him. He deserves the award8221;. The melody queen at her live concert last year had publicly acknowledged Kavi Pradeep for his immortal song Aye mere watan ke logon. She had lamented the fact that the song earned her name and fame but the writer who penned the magic words was neglected. Lata had even presented cash cheque of Rs one lakh to him as a token of love and respect. Late last year, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee also publicly felicitated him atMalad.

Senior counsel passes away
Senior counsel and secretary of City Civil and Sessions Court, Sudhakar N Parte, passed away on Thursday morning due to a massive heart attack.Parte had actively participated for the Labour Welfare Board, Parel, and litigations in the Lalbaug and Parel areas.
Oral literature project
The Central Sahitya Akademi has established a national level project on Literature in Tribal and Oral Traditions. The project will publish songs, stories and plays in tribal languages. One held in attack on agent
Two persons were arrested in connection with the murderous attack on a textile commission agent in south Mumbai on Thursday, police said. Deepak Anil Shetye 31 was nabbed early on Friday and a .32 bore country made revolver with one empty cartridge and four live cartridges were recovered from him. Shetye was held not far from the Bhuleshwar area where he had shot at thecommission agent Sushil Kumar Parekh. His associate Santosh Anand Visava was nabbed hours after the crime. The duo have been charged with attempt to murder, police said.
Meanwhile, the agent was in a serious condition in hospital.
