CM to not meet legislators

Chief Minister Manohar Joshi has cancelled his weekly meeting with legislators scheduled for Wednesday. A Mantralaya press release said the meeting had been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances.

Konkani literary competition

The Goan Review8217;s cultural body, GRAF, has announced literary contests in Konkani in three categories: short story writing, essay writing and skit script writing. The contest is open to all, and contestants can choose their themes. The short story and essay should be approximately 1,200 words each, and the skit, about 3,600. Although contestants can participate in all categories,he/she cannot send more than one entry in each category. The script should also be accompanied by a passport-sized photograph with the contestant8217;s name and address. These should reach GRAF at 14, Nafees Chambers, 1st floor, 121/123 Mody Street, Fort, before June 30. The three best entries in each category will be awarded and featured in the Goan Review. Cell for tax payers8217; woes

The Sales Tax department has established a cell to address tax payers8217; woes. A meeting has been arranged at 3 pm on May 15 at Vikrikar Bhavan, Mazagaon, to look into problems regarding sales tax.

Helpage India is launching a free mobile healthcare programme for senior citizens on Wednesday. Air Chief Marshal S K Mehra, President of Helpage India, will received the keys to the unit from Vipul Shah, CEO of Dow Chemical International Ltd at the Gateway of India.

Bhayander Bhushan8217; award

Professor K M Jani, former principal of the J H Podar High School in Bhayander west, was given the 8220;Bhayander Bhushan8221; award for 1998 by the Mira-Bhayander Shikshan, Sanskrutik and Kreeda Sankul. The award, comprising a trophy and a citation, was presented to Professor Jani by former minister Ganesh Naik at a function organised on Saturday, said Sankul secretary Narendra Tawde.

Veer Sawarkar awards

The VeerSarvarkar Social Service Award for 1998 will be presented to J D Joglekar on May 28 marking Savarkar8217;s 115th birth anniversary. The award comprises Rs 10,000, a bronze medal and a citation. The function will be held at Swatantryaveer Sarvarkar Rashtriya Smarak hall, Shivaji Park.
