Criminals, cops foil jailbreak

Alert criminals and two constables foiled the jailbreak attempt of four undertrials from the Borivli General Lock-up on the night of Wednesday-Thursday.

Just a few minutes after midnight, the four accused created a huge cavity in the rear wall of toilet on the fourth floor of the jail. But just as they tried to sneak out other accused raised an alarm. The two police constables manning the fourth floor, Shivaji Chouthe and Sable, were alerted and rushed to foil the escape attempt. Police say Mallya was the mastermind behind the daring attempt.

After being arrested by the Goregaon police for the murder of his brother-in-law on September 14, Mallya was certain that he would be convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. so he decided to escape and coopted his cell-mates said the deputy commissioner of police, zone-10, Kiran Shelar. The two constable have rewarded with Rs 2,000 by the department while the criminals who helped the police came in for 8220;words ofpraise,8221; said Shelar.

Amboli resident found dead

The body of a 54-year-old man was found with injury marks at his Amboli residence by police, who were summoned by his son on Thursday. Vinod Chandra Solanki 54, who resided in Room No 1001, Vikas Tower, near Amboli railway crossing, was found dead after his brother telephoned his residence on September 22. Finding no response, he informed Solanki8217;s son Jignesh. On visiting the house, Jignesh found he could not open the door and summoned the police who broke open the door. Andheri police have registered a case of murder.

Stone pelting at Mahim

Yet another incident of stone-pelting took place at Mahim railway station yesterday. A stone hit Raviraj Kishore Raj, a resident of Prabhadevi, on his leg at 8.50 pm on Thursday. Raviraj, a journalist, was standing near the door in a Churchgate local when the incident took place, according to the railway control. A complaint has been lodged with the Mumbai Central Railway police.
