Banks open full day on Saturday

The Reserve Bank of India RBI has directed all banks to keep their branches open for the full day on Saturday, April 11. All branches of commercial banks, regional rural banks and cooperative banks will observe business hours and working hours on April 11 as applicable to weekdays, instead of that applicable to a half day, said the RBI, and normal banking transactions will take place. RBI said the instructions have been issued to obviate inconvenience caused to bank customers on account of consecutive bank holidays from April 8 to 12.

Dawood aide arrested

Police arrested a member of the Dawood gang at Nagpada and recovered ten live cartridges and two country-made revolvers. Two other associates, Akhtar and Salmani, managed to escape. The trio was allegedly plotting to eliminate a VIP in the city.

Heroin haul from Ugandan

Officers of the narcotics cell seized 3,500 kgs of heroin worth Rs 3.5 crore from a Ugandan national, Lukwago Willy, whilehe was boarding a flight for Entebbe. The heroin was concealed in the false bottom of Willy8217;s suitcase.

Air show at Marine Drive

State-oF-the-art aircrafts will be on display at a function organised by the Army, Navy and Air Force in association with the Oberoi group of hotels along Marine Drive on April 12. A total of 48 aircrafts, including the Mig-27, Mig-29 and the Mirage-2000, will participate in the flypast. Governor Dr P C Alexander will be chief guest. The display is part of celebrations of 50 years of India8217;s Independence.
