
Critic Iqbal Masud dead
Noted film critic and columnist Iqbal Masud died on Tuesday night after a prolonged illness, family sources said. He was 76.
Before writing on films, Masud served in the Income-Tax Department and retired as commissioner in 1981. He had a tremendous insight into the working of the film industry and his movie reviews were widely read by discerning film fans. Masud is survived by his wife.
Palkhivala hospitalised
Eminent jurist Nani Palkhivala was admitted to Breach Candy hospital on Tuesday after he fractured his shift joint while getting out of his car. Family sources said he would be operated by Dr Sonawala at the hospital on Thursday.
Tea vendor stabbed to death
A tea vendor was stabbed to death by a coconut seller at Marine Drive this evening.
Anil 35 and Raju Narialwalla 21 got into an argument in front of Hotel Marine Plaza at around 3.45 pm. After exchanging some blows, Raju took out his knife used to cut coconuts and stabbed Anil on theback of his neck and fled. The victim died on the spot.
The Cuffe Parade police, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, have launched a manhunt for Raju Narialwalla.
Actress withdraws apology in HC
Amrita Singh, former Bollywood actress embroiled in a criminal litigation filed by a columnist of Star amp; Style magazine, today withdrew her apology tendered yesterday in the Bombay High Court. Since the apology was not accepted by Kanan Divecha, the columnist who was manhandled by Singh in 1994 after an article written in the magazine, counsel for Singh withdrew the apology.
