
Molestation case: Cop transferred
Sub-Inspector Arvind Bhosale with the Malad W police has been transferred in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a seven-year-old deaf-mute girl by her neighbour on June 16. Bhosale has been transferred to the Local Arms Unit for his failure to order a medical examination of the girl after a complaint was registered following the alleged assault by Manik Kadam.
A report prepared by the civic-run Bhagwati Hospital, which examined the girl at the family8217;s behest, had stated it appeared to be a case of sexual assault. Bhosale8217;s transfer, however, follows sustained protests from the family and social workers, who even led a morcha to the police station last Friday. They also met DCP Zone VII Kiran Shelar, who told Express Newsline he has submitted a default report to Addl CP Rakesh Maria on the three other police officers on duty when the complaint was filed. Meanwhile, Kadam, charged under Section 354 assault with a view to outrage the modestyof a woman of the IPC, is out on bail.
Five nabbed forhooch tragedy
Police have arrested five persons for the manufacture and supply of spurious liquor that caused the deaths of three persons at Matunga on July 4. Three others are still in hospital after consuming the liquor.
Shivlal Kanojia, Chedilal Kanojia and Babu Naidu died in the incident. Ironically, Naidu is the brother of Anju Anil Gawde, one of the persons arrested in the case. Thane civic workers8217; stir n OVER 20,000 workers of civic corporations and councils in Thane and Raigad districts began their three-day mass casual leave today. Addressing the workers8217; meeting in front of the TMC headquarters where the strike was a success,convenor of the Thane-Raigad Municipal Employees8217; Action Committee Sharad Rao said the strike had been launched to press for the demands including making temporary workers permanent and implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission benefits to civic employees.
