
Squad to check TV interpolation
With the World Cup 8217;99 to kickstart within 24 hours, the Mumbai police has issued a severe warning to those cable operators who unscrupulously block the contracted advertisements and replace them with their own ads. The erring cable operators can be liable for punishment up to three years of imprisonment and/or fine up to Rs 200,000. Four special police squads have also been formed for this purpose. The squads will be actively helped by staff of ESPN and Star Sports.
Thackeray case hearing deferred
The hearing of a defamation case filed by city Samajwadi Party president Abu Asim Azmi against Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has been posted to June 18. The case, filed by Azmi six months ago, pertained to an article in the Sena mouthpiece Saamna. The matter came up in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate A A Kidwai today. In the absence of the judge, the date for the next hearing has been fixed till after the court vacation.
Cashier lootedof Rs 3 lakh
Four armed men looted a bank cashier of Rs three lakh at Matunga this morning. The robbery took place at around 10.30 am on the sidewalk of D A Marg as the cashier, attached to Indian Bank main branch at Matunga east, was taking the money in a VIP briefcase to another branch.
