ACB traps govt official

A senior government officer, V S Phad, on deputation to MHADA, was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 on Tuesday night by Anti Corruption Bureau ACB sleuths. However, Phad8217;s arrest has been deferred. Moreover, allegedly under political pressure the ACB did not carry out routine search of his residence, a normal practice in most bribery cases. ACB officials refused to divulge details about the matter claiming investigations are on.

IT officer8217;s home searched

The anti-corruption branch of Central Bureau of Investigation CBI, Mumbai searched the residence and offices of assistant commissioner of Income Tax, H P Vishwakarma in connection with a disproportionate assets case on Wednesday.

An FIR alleging offences under Prevention of Corruption Act has also been filed. CBI sources said the officer had acquired property worth over Rs 40 lakh in and around Karjat. He also owns a plush flat in Thane worth about Rs 10 lakh and was alleged to have acquiredall these in a span of five years. The CBI is questioning him. Inquiries revealed there has been no immediate action as CBI is yet to officially inform the officer8217;s seniors in the department.
