Youth kills self in custody

A 22-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging himself at the Mazgaon court lock-up on Tuesday afternoon. The youth, Anjum Syed Sheikh, was arrested by the Dongri police on July 3 in connection with a motor vehicle theft.

Life term for killing girlfriend

Additional sessions court on Monday has awarded life sentence to a jilted lover for murdering his girlfriend after she spurned his advances.

The convict, Madhukar Nigde, killed his girlfriend Tilotama Singh, in cold blood in October 1993 when she refused to have a physical relation with him. Nigde stabbed her and then went to sleep next to her body.

HC summons police chief

A division bench of the Bombay High Court comprising of Justices Dr B P Saraf and A Y Sakhare has directed Mumbai Police Commissioner and six other high-ranking officials to appear in person at the High Court on Monday next, following a writ petition filed by Abdul Aziz Shaikh, a Dharavi resident who complained that his room hadbeen unlawfully sealed by the police under the Bombay Police Act. Shaikh claimed he suffered a loss of Rs 3.15 lakh due to illegal sealing of the rooms by Dharavi police.

Dealwell director held

The director of Dealwell Finance Pvt. Ltd. was arrested on Monday night by the Economics Offences Wing EOW of the Crime Branch for allegedly duping over 500 investors to the tune of Rs three crore. The police said, Rajiv John along with his wife Rosalyn also a director of the company, his daughter, mother, sister and brother-in-law were absconding for the past one and a half month. John was picked up from Dadar TT after the police received a tip-off that he was to visit a friend.

Cheaper palm oil in ration shops

The state government will distribute subsidised palmolein oil through the public distribution system PDS to tide over the unexpected increase in the prices of edible oil.
