
Taximen threaten stir
The Mumbai Taximen8217;s Union has threatened to launch agitation if the state government introduces electronic meters in new taxis while replacing all existing mechanical meters by electronic ones at a later date.
According to A L Qaudros, general secretary of MTU, the electronic meters have been made compulsory in cool cabs but the operators are facing lot of problems due to device breakdown.
Accused in drug case acquitted
Additional sessions judge M S Keni today acquitted six people from a narcotics case on benefit of doubt and technical grounds. Defence advocate Ayaz Khan contended that under section 42 of the NDPS Act a report on the secret information obtained prior to a raid or search had to be furnished to senior office which was not done in this case.
DD film on drug menace
On the occasion of Anti-Drugs day, DD will telecast a special half-hour documentary called, Drugs, The Lurking Menace. Produced and directed by Majid Khan, the programme hasinterviews and views of a cross section of society, including drug addicts, reformed addicts, policemen, journalists.
The documentary will be telecast at 1 pm on DD Metro.

Several MLAs from Mumbai today met Mayor Nandu Satam urging him to follow the example of Thane Municipal Commissioner T Chandrashekhar in his drive against encroachments on roads.The MLAs also took up the issue of regularisation of mezzanine floors in their constituencies.
