
Security tightened
Police have tightened security in Mumbai in view of the seventh anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition on December 6. Twenty battalions of State Reserve Police Force and five battalions of the Rapid Action Force have been deployed in sensitive areas. Security has also been tightened as more than three lakh persons are expected to visit Dr B R Ambedkar8217;s Chaitya Bhoomi at Shivaji Park on the eve of his death anniversary, also on December 6.
Crackdown on taxis, autos
The transport commissioner has announced that strict action will be initiated against taxi and autorickshaw drivers who refuse to ply on short distances. Complaints received at the Transport Office will be dealt with in a severe manner. A special drive will be launched from December 6, he said.
Director general of shipping
Senior IAS officer and MD of Sicom Ltd, D T Jospeh has been appointed director general of shipping. Joseph has held other posts in the state government including secretary in Departments of Health, Revenue and Urban Development.
