VADODARA, March 31: Even as a deficit budget for 1999-2000 of the M S University and a new grant-in-aid policy was passed at the Senate meeting held here on Wednesday, Senate members alleged that the administration had failed to instill confidence in them. The budget was passed without any discussion.

The meeting was adjourned for the second consecutive day on Wednesday as Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane had to attend another meeting, which was fixed up a month ago. The meeting will be called in the next few days to discuss other pending issues, as today only four issues were discussed and passed.

A section of members, particularly teaching faculties, however, opposed the adjournment saying another meeting would not be possible due to the ensuing examinations.

After Kane left, Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dipak Kumar De conducted the proceedings.

While Senator G N Shukla first raised the objection over adjourning the Senate, members Narendra Tiwari, Cassim Unia and Nagin Shah, supported the adjournment.

Alleging lack of confidence in Senators by the administration, Senate member Cassim Unia said all members should be taken into confidence and informed about the happenings of the university. Unia said Senate members meet only once every year and after that nobody was interested in the proceedings.”

Senator M F Salat echoing the statement, said Senate members were ready to work but for that they should be given a chance and involved in the decision-making process.

Senate member Mayank Dholakia said instead of making others scape-goat, the members should themselves come up with solutions to various problems and try to solve it.

Meanwhile, praising the work of the university, Anil Navle said the annual report indicated the effort put in by students and the teaching staff.

He said the report also highlighted various achievements of the university.

Senator Nikhil Desai suggested that the university introduce self-financing courses. He also pointed out while the varsity had introduced courses like BBA, they were lacking facilities. Desai said visiting faculties should be called to conduct viva at the Ph.D. level.
