On Sunday, Sayali Joshi became the third sitting member of the Maharashtra State Public Service Commission (MPSC) to be arrested in the multi-crore MPSC scam. She has been remanded to police custody till June 16.
Special Public Prosecutor S.K. Menon and Additional Public Prosecutor R.V. Kini told Additional Sessions Judge P.N. Deshmukh that Joshi was among the main conspirators in the case.
The scam, in which 398 candidates paid lakhs to pass an MPSC exam in 1999, broke in 2002. Among the accused is Sudhakar Sarode, the then controller of examinations, whose confession indicts Joshi. Investigations also revealed Joshi’s links with Nitin Sathe, an agent involved in procuring candidates willing to pay.
Sayali Joshi, who was in Sassoon Hospital, Pune, was brought to Mumbai by the Anti-Corruption Bureau after they received a call from the Dean informing them of her discharge.
