NEW DELHI, NOV 13: A delegation of BJP MPs and MLAs from Madhya Pradesh today met Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and sought adequate central assistance to meet the situation arising out of the drought condition prevailing in many parts of the state.

Claiming that people in several villages had started migrating to other areas in search of employment, the delegation informed Vajpayee that 29 districts of the state were reeling under severe drought conditions due to scanty rains during the last monsoon.

They said besides causing damage to crops, absence of enough rains led to acute shortage of drinking water and fodder for cattle.

Describing the release of Rs 10 lakh for every affected tehsil as quot;meagrequot;, the members of the delegation said that the state government did not have any concrete proposal to tide over the situation and provide succour to the drought-hit people.

The meeting follows a recent directive from the Prime Minister that Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, particularly the Department of Drinking Water Supply should remain in close touch with states which might face water scarcity in coming months.

The delegation included Shivraj Singh Chauhan, MP, leader of BJP Legislature Party in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Gouri Shankar Shejwar and party8217;s deputy leader Anup Mishra.
