AMBALA, April 26: Most of the aided schools in Haryana are on the brink of closure as they are not getting the grant from the state government regularly. The outstanding grant, which runs into crores of rupees for the last five years, has not been cleared and some of the schools have received only part payments up to 40 per cent. Haryana Aided Schools Teachers Union organising secretary Ramesh Bansal said the teachers and non-teaching staff had not received their salaries for the last six to eight months. He said the education department was learnt to have demanded Rs 7 crore as grant from the finance department to make payments to the aided schools but the department got just Rs 2 lakh, which was a cruel joke with lakhs of teachers and others working in these schools. The management committees of the aided schools get 75 per cent of the deficit of the expenditure which was made up through grants by the government after two years. Those schools which did not get such grants on expiry of the fixed period are facing financial crisis. The union urged Chief Minister Bansi lal and Finance Minister Charan Dass Shorewale to intervene for early payment.
