CHANDIGARH, MAY 20: More than 500 sportspersons, including girls, are attending the summer coaching camps under the aegis of the Chandigarh Sports Department, in various sports disciplines. The camps, which began on May 10, are in full swing and are being held at different venues. The camps will continue till May 25.

The main idea behind the camps, which is for under 19 group, is to spot talent besides encouraging the youngsters to take up physical activity. “The camps provide an opportunity to students to learn the basic of the game and at the same time enable the coaches to tap talent, which otherwise go unnoticed,” said one of the officials of the sports department.

Most of the players selected in the various camps are generally regular trainees at the respective centres. However, some players, who were not selected are also alloted to attend the camps. The trainees are getting refreshment. “This is to encourage the players,” informed one of the coaches.
