CHANDIGARH, May 1: In one of the low key operations carried out in the City today, the enforcement wing of the Estate Office razed about 20 jhuggis in Hallo Majra. Only a few weeks back, the area was cleared of all unauthorised jhuggis but the same had come up again recently.
In another operation carried out near the railway crossing lights, about 30 jhuggis were removed today. Here too, the jhuggis had reappeared after these were demolished a few days earlier. The operations were supervised by tehsildars K. S. Gill and D. S. Baloria.
Sources said that with most of the police force busy because of various May Day rallies being taken out in the City, large-scale operations had been put on hold for the time being.
Meanwhile, various families living in the Shahid Bhagat Singh Colony also known as Karsan Colony today could be seen shifting to Sector 52, where a rehabilitation complex has been provided for them.
