Monteiro is the new Bishop of Aurangabad

NAGPUR, March 15: Bishop Sylvester Monteiro, Bishop of Nagpur Archdiocese, is the new Bishop of Aurangabad. An announcement to this effect was made by Rev Abraham Viruthakulangara, Archbishop of Nagpur in the SFS Cathedral, recently.

The Aurangabad Dioceses was vacant since January 1998 with the resignation of Bishop Ignatius D8217;Cunha on health grounds. Born on November 26, 1933, Sylvester had his earlier education at the SFS School and priestly studies at St Charles Seminary. He pursued his major seminary studies philosophy and theology at St Joseph8217;s Seminary, Mangalore. He was ordained a priest on December 21, 1960 at SFS Cathedral.

Father Sylvester had long years of service at SFS Cathedral as assistant.
