Money-lenders8217; premises raided

VADODARA, Aug 5: Sleuths of the Income Tax IT Department on Thursday carried out a series of raids on the business premises of some of the leading money lenders in Vadodara and seized large number of documents pertaining to tax evasion.

Department sources said that the raids were conducted following a tip off that the money lenders were evading income tax for quite some years. The 10 teams comprising about 70 IT sleuths started raiding the premises at Channi and Padra areas from about 11 am today.

Though officials refused to divulge exact details about the seizures, sources said that the sleuths had taken into possession documents which provided the clue as to how the accused were evading taxes. The raids were continuing till last reports came in.
