Days after actor Amitabh Bachchan kicked off the 8216;No Honking Day8217;, the Maharshtra Navnirman Sena MNS took another dig at him on Wednesday night by putting up four hoardings in Juhu and two in Bandra carrying his silhouette and also the picture of a wedding procession with a caption Bunty chi varat 8212; an obvious reference to the marriage of Amitabh8217;s son Abhishek last year.
Incidentally, the area around Bachchan residence is a silence zone.
MNS workers who put up the poster said they had read reports about a Maharashtrian being fined for taking out a procession during Ganapati festival in the same area.
However, they alleged, there was no action taken when a similar procession was held for the wedding.
8220;We put up four hoardings in Juhu and a couple in Bandra, but those were removed in the morning. We want to point to the irony that the same person who seems to have violated the law related to silence zones was holding a no-honking campaign in Mumbai,8221; said Sandeep Deshpande, Raigad region spokesperson of the MNS.
Deshpande, who was named in the hoardings with three others, said: 8220;Does the law make difference between citizens?8221;
Said the party8217;s Kolhapur region spokesperson Akhil Chitre: 8220;We are asking why there is a duality in rules and regulations for superstars and common men,8221;
When contacted, Nitin Sardesai, MNS spokesperson, said: 8220;I know such posters have been put up. However, I have not seen them myself.8221;
Over this week, the MNS has been active in its campiagn for the rights of Marathi-speaking locals. Since Sunday, MNS workers have been approaching private companies across state demanding 80 per cent reservation for locals in any new recruitment procedure.
The MNS had also put up a hoarding depicting Amar Singh at the same spots on Tuesday.
8220;The police recently gave a clean chit to Raj saheb in the complaint made by them against him. The poster was to express our opinion about Singh and his allegations,8221; said Deshpande.
