
A week after the government cancelled the wheat import tender for 10 lakh tonnes for social welfare schemes due to high prices, the canalising agency MMTC today floated a global tender for duty-free import of 50,000 tonnes of the foodgrain for private trade.
The imported foodgrain will be utilised mainly
by flour millers and biscuit manufacturers. The consignments are to be discharged at Mundra, Kandla, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Tuticorin ports depending on the consignments.
According to the MMTC tender, the buyer reserves the right to increase or decrease the quantities or lots at the time of finalisation of the contract.
