Mill staff block rail tracks

Train services on the Sealdah mainline were severely affected after employees of Nadia Jute Mill in Naihati blocked tracks for over three hours during the busy office hours on Saturday to protest against the closure of the mill. Nearly 4,000 people blocked roads and squatted on the tracks after they found a lock-out notice outside the mill. They were to receive their weekly salary on Saturday, but the mill administration put up a notice of suspension of work.

42-year-old kills self

A 42-year-old man committed suicide by jumping before a Tollygunge-bound train at MG Road station. The deceased, Kanailal Bhattacharjee, was a resident of Uttarpara in Hooghly. According to Metro officials, following the incident, two trains had to be cancelled, while three others ran late. An identity card revealing his identity was recovered from the victim8217;s possession.

Trains run late in Howrah

The 12-hour bandh in Bihar adversely affected the schedule of trains from Howrah on Saturday morning. Two long-distance trains 8212;Amritsar Express and Toofan Express 8212; had to be cancelled due to the late arrival of their corresponding down trains. Rajdhani Express was four hours late. According to the authorities in the Eastern Railways, except two, all trains departed from Howrah.
