Milkha Singh named chairman

Legendary runner Milkha Singh has been named chairman of the 15-member expert committee which will decide the Rajiv Khel Ratna and Arjuna awardees for the year 2007 as well as the Dhyan Chand awardees for lifetime achievement in sports, Sports Minister MS Gill announced on Monday.

Besides the 8216;Flying Sikh8217;, the committee includes nine other eminent sportspersons from different fields, two sports administrators, and officials from the sports ministry and Sports Authority of India.

The ministry also constituted a 15-member committee headed by tennis great Ramanathan Krishnan to select of the Dhronacharya awardees.

The awards will be given away on August 29, the National Sports Day, which is also the birth anniversary of hockey wizard Dhyan Chand.
