NEW DELHI, June 15: A middle-aged couple committed suicide in Saraswati Vihar this morning. The deceased have been identified as Tejpal Singh, 47, and his wife, Suresh, 43. They were found dead in their D-752 Saraswati Vihar house.
The bodies were discovered around 11 am. According to the police, the couple had returned from a pilgrimage to Haridwar on Sunday night, and had retired to their bedroom. In the morning, their son found the door to the bedroom locked, but thinking that they may be tired didn8217;t disturb them. Around 11 am he informed his sister. The two then knocked on the door but got no response.
They finally broke open the door of the bedroom and found their parents in an unconscious state in the room. Tejpal was lying on the floor and Suresh was lying on the bed. They then called a doctor from the neighbourhood, who declared them dead. According to the police, an empty bottle of Aluminum Sulphate and a pesticide known as Sulphaas was found near the bed. A suicide note was also found in the room.
The suicide note, which contained a list of creditors and debtors, stated that the couple were not getting the amount that was due to them even as creditors were breathing down their neck for payment, so they were forced to end their life. They had taken a loan from money lenders who were pressuring them to pay up, the police said.
It is believed that the deaths occurred due to intake of Sulphas but the post-mortem report is awaited. The police are conducting an inquiry into the incident.
