Disneyland, Paris. That’s where the Children’s Summit was held, from June 09 to June 13, 1997. This annual event is organised by Disney Magazines in association with UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation), in which, children from all over the globe, reflect and act on issues concerning their future. And Salil Joshi, Roshni Shah, Vishakha Kullarwar, Tapsi Ramchandani and Neeti Kanodra, were the Indian delegates at the summit. This is the first time an Indian delegation participated in the summit, largely because of the efforts of Walt Disney Consumer Products.
The summit’s theme was `Society’ with the Indian delegation concentrating on `Tradition’ as a sub theme. The delegates were still excited about their trip when they spoke to Bratline. "It was a rare opportunity to be there," said Roshni. "We learnt a lot about other nations," said Salil. Their project comprised of the national flag made with grains, a drawing of the peacock (the national bird) and a map of India with pictures of famous monuments and classical dance pasted on it. "We also had a drawing showing the various festivals of India," said Roshni. The Indian team also worked out a Charter for Society that was later presented to UNESCO Director-General, Frederico Mayor.
