
CHANDIGARH, June 17: To encourage more participation, the Chandigarh Sports Department has further reduced the membership and monthly fee for the various coaching centres in the city. The system of membership fee, which was introduced in September last, had been drawing flak from the sports fraternity. According to a circular of the Sports Department, the revised admission fee in most of the centres will be Rs 20 for students and Rs 50 for non-students. The monthly fee in most of the centres will be Rs 10 for students and Rs 20 for non-students.
In athletics, kko-kho and kabaddi the monthly fee will be Rs 5 for students and non-students, which is the lowest.
However, membership fee for Lake Club swimming pool and tennis courts, Cricket Stadium in Sector 16, Skating Rink, Sector 10 and swimming pools at Sector 23 Nursery and Yoga Centre will remain the same.
Similarly, membership fee for squash courts in Sports Complex Sector 7 and Badminton Hall in Sector 42 non-students will remain the same.
Chess meet
The Chandigarh Chess Association will organise state championships in under-12 and under-14 boys and girls categories on June 27 and 28 at St Xavier8217;s High School, Sector 44.
Entries close with Vipnesh Bhardwaj, HNo. 61, Sector 11 and Brij Nath Prasad, H.No-1161/B, Sector 41-B.
The Chandigarh teams for participation in the national tournaments will be selected during the meet.
Fencing meet
The Fencing Association of India FAI received a fax message from the International Fencing Federation to confirm its participation for the forthcoming World Fencing Championship to be held at Switzerland from October 5 to 11.
According to KS Sahota, secretary FAI, last date of sending the entries is June 25.
