BANGALORE, July 7: Madras Engineering Group (MEG) and Centre pugilists came out with flying colours storming into the finals in four of the six categories in the Army Boxing Championship here today.

Azaz Alam of MEG was the most impressive winner when he outsmarted A.S. Sawarkar of Signals in the second round to book his berth in the finals. He meets R. Prajuli of Gorkha Brigade Centre in the finals tomorrow.

The other MEG boxers who made it to the title round were K. Mani in lt welter, G. Periyar in lt heavy and K.A. Nanaiah in super heavy weight category.

Results: Fly: R. Prajuli (GBC) bt Holkhomang Baite (Asm) on points; Azaz Alam (Meg) bt A.S. Sawarkar, RSC (I) 2nd round.

Feather: Ramand (Sigs) bt Sanjay Gowda (BEG-K) RSC (h) 5th round; P Srinakt (Army) bt Satish Yadav (MEG) on points.

Lt welter: Kishan Singh (Beg-R) bt Jitender Pal. RSC (h) 2nd round; K. Mani (Meg) bt Ghan bahadur (Garh Rif), RSC (h) fourth round.

Lt Middle: Hayat Singh (Kumaon) bt Suresh Kumar (Mech-Inf), retired second round; Y.S. Thapa (GBC) bt K. Babu Rao (Meg) on points.

Lt heavy: Gosman Ajay Sewace (Guards) bt T.V. Ramana (RSC) first round; Periyar (Meg) bt Dayal Singh (Sikhli), RSC (I) second round.
