LOS ANGELES, FEBRUARY 11: US Davis Cup captain John McEnroe has thoughts of playing doubles for his team even as he begins preparations to face the Czech Republic in a quarter-final tie. “I feel like I’m playing good tennis,” McEnroe said here on Thursday. “I work with the guys. I think they respect and saw I could still play doubles. It’s a dream of mine, if all the stars fell into place, to perhaps play a match.”

Asked about his comments that implied Pete Sampras might not be hurt, McEnroe said, “Perhaps I was hoping for too much, that he would come to Zimbabwe and support the team. I took it maybe too personally or too hard.”
