CHANDIGARH, Jan 6: The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh cancelled the meeting of its Arts, Culture and Sports Committee scheduled for today, raising eye brows. The meeting was convened to elect the chairman of the committee for the current year, the term of which expired today.

The seven-member committee consists of former city mayors Gian Chand Gupta and Kamla Sharma, deputy mayor Bachan Singh, Mahinder Singh, Shanta Abhilashi, S Bambah and Om Parkash Goel, all councillors. As per the provisions of the MC Act, the elections to the post of chairman of Arts, Culture and Sports Committee of the Corporation is held annually.
