NAGPUR, SEPTEMBER 18: The Maharashtra State Electricity Board today detected massive power theft worth more than Rs 2.07 crore from a high voltage consumer at Amravati and has booked its owners for power theft.

A team of the Vigilance department swooped on KB Steels, Amravati, after it received information that its owners had allegedly tampered with electric meters. Their doubts proved true when the team noticed that the meters were not showing the correct use of power.

According to estimates prepared by the team on the basis of the consumption of power by the industrial unit and the estimated period during which the theft was taking place, they have calculated a theft of 46.02 lakh units of power at maximum demand of 3,017 KVA. The power theft has been estimated at Rs 2.07 crore.

On the basis of this investigation, the team filed a criminal complaint against the owners Giridharilal Khemchand Bajaj and Purshottam Giridharilal Bajaj under the Indian Power Act 1910 at Rajapeth police station of the Amravati police.

The investigation was done by Executive Engineers Prabhakar Ganage, Jambhulkar, Mali, Mate, all from Mumbai, under the guidance of Director (Vigilance) D N Jadhav.
