
NEW DELHI, AUG 3: Police today chargesheeted 11 people, including main accused Manu Sharma, son of former Union Minister Venod Sharma, in connection with the murder of ramp model Jessica Lal at a South Delhi restaurant saying the killing smacked of a quot;pre-planned conspiracyquot;.
Manu Sharma and 10 others were charged under Section 302 murder, 201 causing destruction of evidence, 212 harbouring and concealing and 120 B criminal conspiracy of the Indian Penal Code.
Metropolitan Magistrate V K Khanna, before whom the chargesheet was filed, fixed tomorrow for taking cognizance of the charges.
Besides Manu SHarma, others chargesheeted are Vikas Yadav, son of Rajya Sabha member D P Yadav, two Coca Cola executives Amardeep Singh Gill and Alok Khanna, Manu8217;s uncle Shyam Sunder Sharma, his chartered accountant Harvinder Chopra, a doctor Ruby Gill, Amit Jhingan, Raja Chopra, Ravinder Krishan alias Titu and Dhanraj.
While Sharma and Vikas are in judicial custody, police have sought the issue of non-bailablewarrants against Raja Chopra, Titu and Dhanraj. The remaining six are on bail.
According to the chargesheet, Lal8217;s murder at socialite Bina Ramani8217;s Qutub Collonnade restaurant indicated a pre-planned conspiracy.
The presence of Vikas, Amardeep, Amit and Alok along with Manu at the restaurant and their not preventing the main accused from firing at Lal indicated a quot;pre-planned conspiracyquot;, the chargesheet said.
The action of the three associates in not preventing Manu from fleeing, not informing the police immediately and not providing medical help to the victim clearly pointed to their involvement in the alleged crime, it said.
The conduct of these accused before and after the murder showed that Manu had shot at Jessica Lal under a quot;pre-conceivedquot; conspiracy in which three others were also involved, it said, adding that they not only participated in the conspiracy but also provided shelter to Manu, helped him flee the spot and destroy evidence.
Shyam Sunder Sharma helped in the escape of Titu, whowas in possession of the weapon of offence, to a foreign country while Yograj Singh, Harvinder Chopra, Ruby Gill harboured Manu, it said.
Dhanraj, a driver with D P Yadav, was charged with taking away Manu8217;s Tata Safari vehicle from the restaurant after the incident and abandoning it in Noida UP, two days later after changing its windscreen.
