Born in Chennai in July 1966, Pravin took to playing the guitar at the age of ten, “cause it was the cheapest instrument available then”. He even joined his school band just so that he could play. So caught up was he with music that in 1985, he joined the Institute of Hotel Management in Chennai, cause it had a cool band with some amazing musicians.

So he upped and left for Sydney, Australia in 1990 where he joined the School of Audio Engineering (the biggest in the world) to further his technical knowledge. He completed his post graduate `tonmeister’ program in music production.

There he, along with a few of his class-mates formed a band called `Party Pigs’, but doing just that was not enough. So he started working in studios around Sydney, which eventually led to setting up his own production suite – MO Mani Music Productions in 1996.

On one of his visits to India, he got an offer from Magnasound which he gladly accepted. To date, he has worked on two albums for Magnasound, the first was generic stuff – a remix of Daler Mehndi’s songs called Daler Remix and the second was for singer Ash for his album Husn.

His third album – Ohm Karma is his own baby. An instrumental album, it is basically an experiment on world music. “I draw my inspiration from Jazz, Electro and R`n’B music and it shows in my work”, says Pravin. “As for the album, it is not made for Indian audiences only, but audiences the world over. I also know that my type of music will appeal to only a select, niche market” but this is exactly what he wants. “I am very sure about that”, he says, with such confidence!

“Infact, for my next album, I am already looking towards folk music for inspiration. I just might do a song based on taxi horns or hawkers cries,” confides Pravin very seriously. And serious he is. For he wants to be the one who leads others in this genre. Lead on!!!
