
Unable to repay a trade debt to a fellow businessman, a 46- year-old man from Navi Mumbai murdered the lender at the deceased8217;s office at Kalamboli. Pradeep Modi 46, a businessman dealing in steel came all the way from Goregaon in Mumbai to the office of Kishor Garodiya at Kalamboli to recover the dues that arose out of business transactions.
According to the investigating officer, police inspector J D Tambe, Modi had been relentlessly trying to recover his dues from Garodiya for the last four months. Modi turned up at Garodiya8217;s office located on the first floor of Steel Chambers at Kalamboli, in order to recover Rs 40 lakh.
Garodiya had a kitchen knife and a hammer with him in the office. 8220;The fact that he had come prepared with the weapon to murder indicates that he had pre-planned the crime and it was not in the heat of the moment,8221; said inspector Tambe.
A long argument over the payment of dues ensued between the two inside the office. There was a third person inside the office as well. At 4 pm, Garodiya chose to end the argument by clubbing Modi with the hammer and then stabbing him with the kitchen knife.
Four hours later at 8:25 pm Garodiya walked into the Kalamboli police station and informed police sub-inspector Dattarray Khade 39 that he had murdered a person and the body was lying in his office. Garodiya has been remanded to police custody till October 22. According to Kalamboli police, Garodiya who is a resident of the posh NRI complex at Seawoods, Nerul, does not have any previous criminal records.
8220;Through interrogation we would try to find out what he did in the hours after committing the crime till the time of surrender. We are also trying to ascertain if he had any other accomplice in the murder,8221; added inspector Tambe.
