Chandigarh, April 23: A 22-year-old man, accused of rape less than three years ago, died under mysterious circumstances at his employer8217;s residence at the PGI today.
The deceased, Raj Kumar, was rushed to the PGI emergency as a suspected case of poisoning early this morning by his employer8217;s families. He later died at 5 p.m., police sources said.
Kumar worked and lived in a buffalo shed owned by Satpal Bhardawaj, a PGI employee and resident of the Type II Colony inside the campus. The police revealed that Kumar along with some other youths residing in Janata Colony had been accused of raping a girl in 1995. The present outcome of the charges is not known.
Police sources said members of Bhardwaj8217;s family, in their statement, said that Kumar was found in a state of unconsciousness on his bed at around 6 a.m. with froth coming out of his mouth. He was hospitalised immediately, it was added.
quot;He used to keep our buffaloes for us and in turn we gave him a place to stay. He would also pull a rickshaw when he had no work at home,8221; a member of the Bhardwaj family said.
The police said while the death could have been due to poisoning, there was no apparent reason for the deceased to have committed suicide.quot;We are investigating into the matter. The post-mortem examination will be conducted on Friday and the report might throw some light on the case,8221; official sources said.
While no case has been registered so far, investigations were on till late in the night.
