CALCUTTA, AUG 16: The Trinamool Congress, which refused to discuss the National Democratic Alliance8217;s election manifesto, has seemed to have backed the NDA8217;s stand on the full-term for the elected bodies8217;.
Echoing a similar sentiment, party leader Mamata Banerjee criticized the other political camp which, she felt, 8220;has reduced the Parliamentary democracy into a joke by toppling Governments8221;.
8220;They imposed elections on the nation and the people without any alternative, and this cannot go on,8221; Mamata said here this evening, hinting that her party manifesto may well include this point.
Elaborating her point, she said:8220;The political instability has inspired Pakistan to indulge in the Kargil misadventure.8221; Earlier, she declined comment on the NDA election manifesto, saying,8220;Since we are not a part of the NDA, we cannot make comments.8221; When asked why her party has decided not to join the NDA, she shot back,8220;It8217;s our party decision and I am not supposed to explain every decision we take.8221;
Asked how her stand on the NDA could be interpreted, as many political observers have already said that she was keeping other options open after the elections, she said: 8220;They have the right to interpret and I have no comments to make,8221;. She then reiterated,8220;Our Prime Ministerial candidate is Atal Behari Vajpayee.8221;
