A Local court yesterday granted bail to three CPIMaoist cadres accused of murdering Jharkhand Mukti Morcha JMM MP Sunil Mahato and two of his bodyguards on March 4.

The accused, Rajan Mahato, Nirmal Mahato and Krishna Singh, were granted bail after the prosecution failed to furnish any

evidence to prove their involvement.

The Mahatos and Singh were among the nine accused who allegedly stormed the Bagudia football ground in East Singbhum district and shot dead the MP and his bodyguards. They were booked by the police under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Later, on the state Government8217;s recommendation, a CBI probe was initiated. Since the investigating officers failed to file a chargesheet within 90 days of taking over the charge to probe, Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate Pradeep Kumar Chowrasiya ordered that the three accused be let off on bail. The bail petitions of the remaining six accused, who were still in judicial custody, were yet to be heard by the court.

Asked if the agency has failed to resolve the case, CBI DIG A K Singh replied in the negative. He said: 8220;Investigation is on. As and when we gather material evidence, we will submit our chargesheet.8221;
