Dheeraj Jadhav is a right man in the wrong team. His team 8212; Maharashtra 8212; barely managed to survive in the elite division while in the one-dayers they were equally disappointing. But despite the ruins around him, Jadhav has accumulated runs by truckloads.

So far he has scored more than 700 runs in Ranji Trophy this season and this comes at the back of 1,245-run tally last year. Add to that his consistent performance during India A8217;s tour and we have yet another contender for the opening slot in the national team. Jadhav was in the squad for the Tests against Australia and that8217;s the closest he has reached from his dream of opening for India.

Tell him about Gautam Gambhir cementing his place as an opener and, subsequently, the door closing on him he doesn8217;t look fazed. 8216;8216;One has to perform regularly to stay in the reckoning. With so many cricketers in the wings one has to perform at the first opportunity and has to be consistent to hold his place,8221; said Jadhav after his fighting 51 against Mumbai in a lost cause today.
