In an indication of the growing rift between the Shiv Sena and the BJP in Maharashtra, Sena chief Bal Thackeray has criticised the younger generation of BJP leaders and ridiculed the idea of using the 8220;Modi pattern of Hindutva8221; in the state.

In his interview to Saamna, Thackeray said Modi and his pattern of Hindutva would not be accepted in Maharashtra. 8220;Maharashtra is clever and won8217;t accept any vakda-tikda twisted/ undeserving person,8221; he said.8221;The riots after the Godhra incident helped him.8221; Thackeray also pointed out that the walls of Maharashtra were so strong that leaders like Mayawati would not be able to topple even a brick. 8220;We are so casteist that she won8217;t be successful,8221; he said.

The BJP chose to downplay Thackeray8217;s outbursts. 8220;If Modi comes to Maharashtra for election campaign, he will campaign not just for BJP, but the Shiv Sena as well,8221; Gadkari told The Indian Express. 8220;The Hindutva of Modi and Balasaheb is the same.8221; He further said that the BJP respected and loved Thackeray. He said that the alliance between the Sena and the BJP were intact and the parties would contest future elections together. 8220;I don8217;t think this Modi issue will create any problems for us,8221; he added.
