BARAMATI, FEBRUARY 12: It could have passed off as just another inauguration ceremony only if Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had not skipped it and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu had not heaped praises on NCP leader Sharad Pawar who was their host.
Significantly, Pramod Mahajan attended the function despite strong resentment voiced by the local party cadres who had sent telegrams asking him not to attend the function.
Despite all this, Mahajan the Union Minister for Information Technology and Naidu whose TDP is a vital component of the NDA, praised Pawar8217;s vision8217; in bringing about an IT revolution in the rural parts of the State.
So, while Mahajan lauded Pawar for bringing quality IT education to the rural parts, Naidu said it was Pawar8217;s vision which had changed Maharashtra8217;s face during the past few years.
On his part, the chief minister kept himself busy with a bhhoomipoojan for a cooperative sugar factory at Karad where he dropped a veiled warning for RSS by saying that the state government would crack down on fundamentalist8217; forces if the reins of religious and cultural terrorism were being operated from Nagpur.
The CM who had earlier agreed to attend the function, changed his schedule at the last moment. Sources said the office-bearers of Vidya Pratishthan decided to change the plaque, on which Deshmukh8217;s name was engraved. And for those who can read between the lines, there was no mention of Deshmukh in Sharad Pawar8217;s speech.
