8226; Intellectual bankruptcy is not the only tag that sticks well with the 8216;Little Stalinists8217; of JNU IE, November 16. They deserve an additional label 8212; of intellectual dishonesty. Many of them are preparing to become 8216;superbabus8217; to run India8217;s semi-capitalist system. They well know that in the present system, there is no place for Marx or for Lenin and yet they pretend to be Communists at tax-payers8217; expense. Sadly, our English media are equally responsible for encouraging this dishonesty by giving the Little Stalins undue publicity.

Mr 25 per cent

8226; After retaining a minister who is alleged to be involved in a fraud involving crores, the leader of the party says, 8216;8216;No one will be spared8217;8217;. Is there such a thing as a person with 25 per cent integrity so that he may not be the External Affairs Minister 75 per cent but be a minister without portfolio 25 per cent?

Salem8217;s style

8226; As a law-abiding citizen I have been paying my income-tax for the last three decades, regularly. Even after retirement, when there is no regular income and I
depend solely on the dwindling interest rates, I continue filing my returns, religiously. Whereas His Royal Highness Abu Salem, the dreaded gangster who is wanted in the Mumbai serial blasts that snuffed out the lives of 257 innocent people, is enjoying a luxurious life at tax-payers8217; expenses without paying any tax. For the don, it was the red carpet, all the way from Lisbon to Mumbai!

A new policy

8226; The fourth point on the LoC was opened by India on November 14 for helping quake-hit people of PoK. Terrorists carried out an attack on the same day at Lal Chowk in Srinagar. The incident in Srinagar and the attack by Naxalites in Jehanabad indicate that India8217;s foreign as well as domestic policies are full of cowardice, impotency and cannot assure the security of Indians8217; lives and property.

Terror trail

8226; Terrorism is on the rise and it is shocking to note that innocent Indians are not only killed by terrorists across the border but also inside their own country. The question arises, what is our government doing? Is it not the basic duty of the government to guarantee the safety of its people?

Pawar, unifier?

8226; I read with interest Shekhar Gupta8217;s 8216;Walk the Talk8217; interview with Sharad Pawar IE, November 15. I wish Pawar a very healthy life. He could never elevate himself to the stature of a national leader. He never reached out to the masses to explain his position on issues of real interest to the rural poor and the nation as a whole. Instead, he was seen to be jockeying for power from within and when he failed, cast himself in the role of unhappy defector. But after knowing about his views through this very absorbing interview, I think his services should be used as a great unifier. There should be common ground between warring political parties on national and international issues. Pawar, as a senior, can bring the parties around.
