Director Chitra Palekar and actor Sonali Kulkarni talk of overcoming linguistsic barrier while they unveil the DVD of the widely acclaimed Marathi film Maati Maay
This film might have won several international recognitions, awards and was also screened at various festivals, however two years after its release the Marathi film Maati Maay is now literally regional, with its DVD launch. Promising to grasp a wider reach its director Chitra Palekar and actress Sonali Kulkarni recently released the DVD at the Crossword Store in ICC Trade Tower.nbsp;
Kulkarni shared how her passion for cinema had been much shaped by Palekar. 8220;She has taught me what is cinema and how to choose and appreciate it. It is remarkable working with her because she has a fantastic sense of time, spontaneity and is full of life. People are eager to see my work but the DVDs aren8217;t available in the market and to cater to these increasing viewers such prospects are very essential,8221; says Kulkarni.
Palekar also shared her views on the need to perceive entertainment through wider issues. Adding further she says, 8220;What we still haven8217;t learnt is to interpret the definition of entertainment in a broader way. It can also hold the power to stimulate you, shake you and make you think. When Maati Maay was released in theatres its screening has been replaced by a popular Hindi Film. The time slot too would be inconvenient for the audience to watch. Regional languages are slightly considered inferior here but when you go abroad with these film you don8217;t represent the Hindi film Industry, you represent India.8221;
