NABHA PATIALA, Jan 14: At 13 years of age, they are too innocent to understand the meaning of marriage. The two school-going girls, one Hindu and the other Muslim, walked into a trap which led to their being kept in confinement in two different villages and raped repeatedly for about 20 days. The trap had been laid by one of the family acquaintances who roped in another youth for the purpose.

The two girls, both students of class VII of a local government school, were abducted by two youth, aged about 23. One of the abductors, Iqbal Khan, who was known to the family of the Muslim girl, told her that he would take her to Uttar Pradesh and marry her. She told this to the other girl who had also come to know Khan since he had been meeting her friend quite often.

Khan had taken into confidence an acquaintance, Darshan Kumar, and the two decided to take the girls to Uttar Pradesh with Khan promising Kumar that he would get the Hindu girl married to him.

The fathers of the girls are daily-wagers 8212; the Hindu girl8217;s father works as a cook with a catering party and the Muslim girl8217;s father takes up odd jobs for a living. Their abductors, too, are daily-wagers.

On the morning of December 3, the girls left their houses for school. However, their parents got worried when the two did not return. After a long and futile search, they informed the police and a case was registered at the Kotwali police station here on December 8 under Sections 363 and 366 IPC.

Kumar was arrested on December 17 and the police have obtained arrest warrants against Khan who is evading arrest.
