NEW DELHI, Oct 3: The Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir remained tense today as Indian and Pakistani troops continued to trade heavy artillery, mortar and small arms fire in Siachen glacier while Pakistani troops indulged in unprovoked mortar shelling on Indian positions in Tangdhar sector.Indian troops responded to the unprovoked Pakistani firing in a ``restrained'' manner, the sources said. No casualties were reported in the Pakistani firing.Pakistani troops had put up white flags in Uri and Kupwara sectors yesterday after they suffered at least 50 casualties in retaliatory Indian action.More than 120 bunkers of Pakistan Army were also destroyed in the retaliatory action by Indian troops. The artillery shelling had also ceased yesterday, though small arms fire was said to be continuing on forward Indian positions.The lull on the Line of Control (LoC) was broken by Pakistan on September 30, when it targeted civilian Indian positions with heavy shelling, resulting in death of 17 people and injuries to 30 others.Meanwhile, the directors general of military operations (DGMOs) of two neighbours talked to each other yesterday on the recently activated hostile.Official sources said the unscheduled call was made by the Pakistani DGMO. Normally the two DGMOs established contact over the hotline on Tuesdays.The conversation between the DGMOs comes within a day of the prime ministers, I K Gujral and Nawaz Sharif talking to each other on the hotline to de-escalate the situation along the LoC.
